I bought a pair in the same colour. I have tried many gloves before my purchase, and I must say that these gloves have a [superior] feel when riding: The comfort is great and the feeling is fantastic. Not mentioned in the video is the great ventilation, Kevlar stitching all the way and the Kevlar upper lining with memory foam around the boa mechanism, truly this is the best glove on the market right now. Tested both on track and road an they are great.

Motorcycle jeans re-thought?

Motorbike jeans have come a long way in the last few years. Several brands are now producing denim jeans that you'd want to be seen in. Rev'It have moved this a step further and made a safe and comfortable motorcycle jean that cares as much about the destination as it does about the journey. By de-constructing what riders want from their jeans and looking at what was already available in the market, Rev'It have pushed the boundary. They have created a range of jeans that outperform all others in terms of wear, temperature regulation, safety and protection as well as style and design. That sounds like a lot of hyperbole but since first seeing these jeans in production a few months ago, I haven't stopped being amazed at them. I'm pretty sure, by the time you've read all the blogs, you will be too!

Cool Jeans: Coolmax fabric

Rev'It have developed these jeans using two tech fabrics, Coolmax and Cordura. These have been developed to counteract the negatives of Kevlar jeans. If you've ever spent time in Kevlar you'll know that they get incredible hot inside. This is because the protection they offer isn't very breathable. We'll talk about how Cordura is designed to fix this later but Coolmax is the first defence against overheating jeans!
Coolmax fabric lines the denim to make the jeans ultra breathable. Coolmax works by wicking body moisture away from the skin and spreading it over the fabric. The fabric is then fast drying, keeping your temperature regulated. Removing body moisture is crucial to comfort. If it's hot out, the moisture will stick to the skin giving an uncomfortable prickly heat. If it's cold, your body moisture cools quickly and that chill transfers to your body. These motorcycle jeans mixed with Coolmax are designed, specifically to keep you comfy and able to wear these jeans on any occasion.

Cool Protection: PWR Shield

PWR shield knit is Rev It's answer to Kevlar and it works in a similar way to Kevlar. It offers abrasion and rip protection to keep you safe and wrapped if you ever meet the tarmac. However where Kevlar has to be knitted within the denim PWR shield is part knitted and part woven. This gives the jeans more flexibility and thins out the fabric making it more comfortable. But PWR shield has more over Kevlar. The PWR Shield knit and weave technique creates two wafer thin layers of protection that are at their strongest when flattened against each other. Like when you fall off your bike. The two layers mesh together on impact and create a tougher, more resistant fabric. This gives the motorcycle jeans a burn time (skidding along the ground time) of over 5 seconds. To put that in to perspective, a standard pair of 501s has a burn time of 0.51 seconds and Kevlar burns out at around 3.5 seconds.

But that's not all! Rev' It have analysed where the impact points on your legs are when you fall. Knowing this means they haven't covered the jeans in the protection but put it where it really matters. This keeps the trousers lighter and more flexible for around town or the office, makes them better for controlling your temperature and are still strong and safe exactly when needed.

And Finally...

The often neglected posterior! Rev' It have turned traditional trouser making on its head and put the bum first! A new diamond stitching pattern enables much more movement and flexibility when straddling your bike. This should help eradicate the numb pain that happens when you've been sat on your bike for too long!

Real World review- GetGeared Customer Paul Carter on the Shoei GT Air Wanderer TC5

GetGeared customer Paul Carter on the Shoei GT Air Wanderer TC5

Initial views in this lid are that it is very impressive. Previously an Arai Chaser V wearer I really wanted to try a Shoei. XR1100s don't fit me properly so I was surprised when the GT-Air snugly sat around my moon-head without any wobble or 'roll-test' problems.

Day1:
Noise assessment - Forgot my plugs (slap wrist) and so the first impression I got on 50mph roads heading into work was that the lid was a lot quieter than I'd hoped - with plugs I'll just be able to hear my own thoughts and enough of the outside world to keep me fully informed.

Home time saw me heading down the motorway as an alternative and (still plug-less) I was again impressed by the quietness of the Shoei. Not too much wind noise at 70 or 80 - something my Chaser wouldn't allow me to do in comfort without plugs, the only annoyance I had was at certain angles there is something that catches a breeze and sounds like there's a fly buzzing around (there wasn't) - not all the time, but annoying when it did it.

 

Vision assessment - I always thought the field of vision my Arai allowed me was pretty good, but donning the GT was like comparing having the curtains open to having them removed completely - I much prefer the extra peripheral view I now get, especially for those glances when needing to switch motorway lanes.

Misting assessment - none to report, the Pinlock and vents on the Shoei (chin spoiler and breath guard attached) caused no misting at all, even after returning home and sitting in the drive.

Sunvisor assessment - Easy enough to flip up/down on the move, but as yet no need to use it with the low sun. Looks like it'll be decently tinted to not mean me having to squint, but I'll have to wait and see.

My opinion: I thought I'd be Arai through and through, but I must say I'm a convert. I still have my Chaser-V as a back up (and it's got my 2-way Sena fitted to it for convoy riding), but I don't think I'll be cracking out the Arai for anything other than that.
