What We Wear - The Shark Vancore

I've always been partial to something a little different, to be a little different, which is perhaps why I was drawn to the Shark Vancore in the first place, and perhaps why I love motorcycles!

The Vancore has got a hint of Darth Vader about it, a hint of Fighter Pilot (both without looking daft!) and a hell of a lot of 'cool'. It certainly turns heads and looks very different to other lids out there- generating interest a bit like the Simpson Bandit in its day. It looks great. Bonus: Dad (77) says I look 'sinister' in it. Sinister's good. :)

Function or Fashion?

Big question on everyone's lips with this lid though is what's it actually like to wear? Is it just a fashion statement or does it actually do the job? Having worn it all weekend on the bike, and all last week on the bike too I can categorically say this helmet is the real deal.

Loving the fact it's got goggles! Really enjoying the goggles experience!

It was quite snug for a medium- to begin with. However now I've worn it a few times its just right now and has an amazing fit. I've heard a few people talking about the lack of peripheral vision with these. My thoughts on the are: WHAT? No idea what lid they've been wearing but the vision for me is amongst the best I've had with helmets, and in no way impairs me.

I can't believe how light it feels too, very, very comfy, almost feels like you've not got a lid on- very kind to the neck, very easy to do the lifesaver checks. It weighs just 1250 grams, super light. The goggles are amazing- I can best describe it as 'a bit of an open face experience'- as you can feel the wind around the goggles, whereas a visor seals in place. Not too breezy, but enough to make you feel more 'at one' with the elements. Big grin factor with this for me.

Of course if you want the full David Beckham experience (if you saw his full face lid with no visor and sunglasses instead in his recent Amazon documentary) you can dispense with the visor and wear sunglasses. (See below)

Is it noisy? Well I ride a naked bike with zero fairings so everything is noisy! But to be honest wind noise in the lid wise it's not noticeably any different to Arai, Held, Shark or Suomy helmets I've owned.

At £229.99 for the Matt black it's not expensive, and has the Shark quality feel to it. If you ever wondered what it was like to have a lid make you grin like your bike does- buy one. I love it...
